VITAMIN E AND THEIR IMPORTANCE IN HUMAN BODY

 Introduction

Vitamin E is a fat soluble  vitamin  and its called tocopherols. It is very essential for human being  because it protect the human body from oxidative damage( Free radical  are molecules in the body they cause a human cells  to damage by attacking on the wall of cell membrane) and Vitamin act as a oxidative agent and protect the human body from oxidation.

It was discovered by scientists while they were studying about the reproduction of rat. At first it was named as anti-sterlity vitamin and later on it named as vitamin E

It exhist in two forms

Tocopherol

* Alpha- Tocopherol

* Beta-Tocopherol

* Gamma- Tocopherol

* Dalta- Tocopherol

Tocotrienols

*Alpha- Tocotrienols

* Beta- Tocotrienols

* Gamma- Tocotrienols

* Dalta- Tocotrienols

Among all the above forms of vitamin E Alpha- Tocopherol is the most active form

In composition of Vitamin E it has two chain

* Chromanol ring ( Anti oxidant part)

* A long side chain ( fat soluble part)

*  It can store in fatty tissues and liver

Function of vitamin

1. How vitamin E protect cell membrane?

★ Cell membrane contain polyunsaturated fatty acid and free radicals attack on these radical due to this the cell membrane damage as a result the cell become unstable. In this step vitamin E provide  electron to free radicals and this can nutrilize  these free radicals and protect them from attacking on the cell membrane.

★protect cell rapture and maintain cell membrane integrity

2. How vitamin E support immune system?

★ It protect the cell membrane of T- cells, B-cells and machrophages.

★Enhance the production of antibodies production

★Reduce inflammation by decreasing prostagladin synthesis

★Reduce risk of infection

3. How vitamin E maintain the health of skin?

★ Just like the protection of other cells from oxidation reduction same like that it also protect the cells of skin from Oxidative reaction from UV rays from sun

★Reduce inflammation

★ Help to maintaining skin integrity

★ Prevent the skin from dryness

★ Prevent the formation of rinckle formation

★ Reduce hyperpigmentation in skin

★ Promote wound healing

4. How vitamin E is important for eye health?

★ The retina of human eye contain several polyunsaturated fatty acid when any free radical try to attack on them  there vitamin  E act as antioxidant protect  the membrane of retina from distruction

★ Also prevent the retina from the exposure of ligh which make retina damage

★ Help in damaging of cataract  formation

★ Reduce age related muscular degenration

5. How vitamin play a vital role in reproductive health?

★ Initially it was called  anti sterlity hormone

★ Protect sperm membrane from oxidation

★ protect DNA damage in sperm

★ Improve sperm motality

★ Reduce oxidation of eggs

★ Support endometrial health

6. How vitamin is important for nervous system and brain?

★ protect  mylein sheath

★ Protect the neuronal membrane of neural cell from oxidation  damage

★ Maintain syneptic function

7. How Vitamin E make stable the health of cardiovascular system?

★ Reduce inflammation in blood vessels

★ Reduce  risk of plague formation

★ Prevent oxidation of lower density lipo protein (LDL) bad colestrol if these should be oxidized they cause  movement of high amount of colestrol toward body as result  atherosckerosis

 ★ Prevent aggregation of platlets

8.  How vitamin  E is functioning as a antioxidant?

★ Vitamin E present in the membrane of lipid  bilayer when any unstable molecule ( actually they are superoxide or hydroxyl radical ) try to react on the membrane of any lipid bilayer or fatty acid  after their attacking the cell become damaged as a result the cell rapture here before this event vitamin E produce electron to neutralize the  unstable molecule as a result the unstable molecule become neutralized and the cell become safe.

Such like vitamin E vitamin A also functioning as an antioxidant for more about vitamin A visit this sitehttps://healthduhs.blogspot.com/2026/02/importance-and-deficiency-of-vitamin-in.html

What are the sources of vitamin E?

⏫ All these sources contains the concentration of vitamin before frying when it will fried  the concentration of vitamin E as per the fried  had imposed on that source

★ Almod

★ Sunflower seed

★ Peanuts

★ Soybean oil

★ Corn oil

★ Sunflower oil

★  Wheat germ oil

Daily requirement of Vitamin E

Pregnant women= 16 mg day

Lactating women= 20 mg day

0–6 months  =   5 mg day

7–12 months = 6 mg day

1–3 years =7 mg day

4–8 years= 9 mg day

9–13 years= 12 mg day

14 years and above (Adults)= 16 mg

 What are the sign and  symptoms of vitamin E deficiency?

★ Muscle weakness

★Nerve damage

★ Vision problem

★ Weak immune system

★ Peripheral neurophathy

★ Loss of cordination

 ★ Hemolytic anemia

 What are the disease that caused by the deficiency of vitamin E?

1. Cardiovascular disease

2. Cancer

3. Diabetes

For more about diabetes visit this sitehttps://healthduhs.blogspot.com/2026/01/diabetes-and-its-impact-on-human-being.html

4 . Alzheimer's  disease

Treatment of vitamin E treatment

★ supplement of oral vitamin E e.g d- alpha tocopherol 200-500 IU/ day if the condition is severe the dose should be increased upto 1000IU that have more side effect that should be done in specific condition

★ IM injection  is also prescribed to the patients during severe cause
